Change Is Not Linear (S21E6)

Hey lovely Reader

Today I closed the circle on a year of Immerse. That’s twelve months of working with the most wonderful group of people, and a final session that left me feeling full and a little tender.

During that session, someone said that change is not linear.

It’s such a simple thing, and it’s stayed with me all day. It’s one of those truths we know deep down and can yet somehow forget, especially when we’re tending to many things at once.

It sent me back to a poem I wrote years ago, one of the very first in My Darling Girl. It begins: Change is not linear. It ebbs and flows with the waters of the estuary. I hadn’t read it in a long time, and reading it aloud for this week’s episode felt like being met by an old friend.

There’s a line I keep returning to: your ancient heart feels the timeless current and knows that all is flow. It feels comforting to me. Maybe it speaks to you too.

This link will take you straight to the episode (listen or watch) or just search (the new show name) Everyday Compassion with Henny Flynn.

If something in your life is moving too fast or too slowly - if the waters of the estuary are feeling too shallow or too deep - I hope this offers a comforting presence to accompany you. And if there is something you would like to share, I would love to listen.

May we all be safe, well and happy. May we all remember the wisdom we have gathered to us.

With love

PS: One gentle note: I’m now welcoming people into the next Immerse cohort, which begins towards the end of November... from one ending comes a new beginning. If you’d like to talk about whether it might be right for you, simply reply to this email.
