How do you like to write? Words slowly falling from the end of a pen? The rattle of a keyboard? A rapid patter of fingertips on a screen? Or do you prefer a voice memo to capture your reflections?
However we do it, the act of laying out our inner words can be such a balm to our soul.
I like the scratch of nib on paper. It's comforting and slow.
In the summer, Anton gave me a Tom's Studio pen for my birthday. If you like writing in ink and want to do away with single-use plastic pens then I recommend taking a look at them. Anton had it engraved with 'River Reader', and it makes me smile each time I use it - a tiny source of delicious joy. I realise that sounds like an ad - but, no. They have no idea of my existence... I simply love what they have created.
Writing by hand is my preference for journaling, always. Yet though these words are typed they still feel pleasing as they fall. And it seems ok to me to be aware of these small pleasures. And to remember there are no rules.
Friday’s ‘Finding Flow’ event was sold out. 100 people signed up. A marker to me of the growing curiosity about how powerful our words can be in helping us make sense of our inner and outer worlds.
It was a chance for each of us to connect inwards for an hour. To listen deeply. To challenge ourselves in the kindest way. To ask questions that challenged me (such thought-provoking questions!) And to write. To put pen to paper, to open up our heads, hearts and haras. To write and simply see what flows.
These gatherings truly are one of my favourite things to do. I’ve said before… something magical happens when we connect in this way.
And.
We all know there's a lot going on right now. The macro and micro conditions around us can feel so hard to navigate.
Flow Journaling can be one of the tools that helps us work out what we think, feel and deeply know. And it can be something that helps us work out what it is we each can do to help effect the changes we wish to see. And, the most wonderful place we can begin, of course, is within.
May we all be safe. May we all be healthy. May we all be happy. May we all live with ease.
With love
PS: There are two more Finding Flow journaling events coming up in Jan and Feb next year. Hosted by my publisher, Kate Adams. We’d love to see you there.
PPS: If you don’t yet receive Kate’s Inner Work Project emails, I highly recommend taking a look. I love how she writes.
To STOP receiving these Sunday reflections please update your preferences here. I only ever want to send you things you love.
